Cave Hill, St. Michael is a suburban area situated in the parish of St. Michael. It is located about 4 km north-west of the capital-city Bridgetown along the west coast of Barbados. The University of the West Indies comprises four campuses through the region, which are Mona in Jamaica, St. Augustine in Trinidad and Tobago, Cave Hill in Barbados and the Open Campus which serves students across the region. The total student body is approximately over 39,000 which is distributed amongst the Faculties of Law, Humanities & Education, Pure and Applied Sciences, Social Sciences and the School of Clinical Medicine & Research ; Arts & Education, Medical Sciences, Social Sciences and Pure & Applied Sciences at Mona; and Agriculture & Natural Sciences, Engineering, Humanities & Education, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences at St. Augustine. Despite its expansion in recent years, the campus maintains much of its original architecture of simple, low-rise buildings. The scenic attractiveness and relatively small size of the university community creates an inviting, intimate and friendly atmosphere. This campus has 5 faculties which comprise academic departments. In addition, there are 5 research units and centres and 2 graduate institutions Cave Hill Campus. The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus' academic programmes offer diversity at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
